Course Overview

Poonam Patil is a certified yoga teacher, and this course sits alongside the Sanskrit and music teaching rather than apart from it. Breath is the thread between them: the control that carries a long Vedic passage is the same control a sustained posture asks for.

Sessions are unhurried. Postures are built up gradually, held only as long as the breath stays even, and adjusted for the person rather than the group. Nobody is asked to keep pace with anyone else.

Where a Sanskrit term is used — for a posture, for a breath practice — it is pronounced properly and its meaning given, which learners of the recitation classes tend to appreciate.

What You Will Learn

  • Move through a sequence of postures with the breath rather than ahead of it
  • Practise prāṇāyāma safely, at a pace that suits you
  • Hold a posture without strain, and know when to come out of it
  • Sit comfortably enough for a period of stillness
  • Pronounce the Sanskrit names of the postures and practices correctly
  • Keep a short, regular practice going at home

Who Can Join

  • Adults beginning yoga for the first time
  • Children, at a gentler pace and with a parent present
  • Learners already practising who would like corrections to posture and breath
  • Learners of the Sanskrit classes wanting the breath work that supports long recitation

How It Is Taught

  1. 1 Each session opens with settling and breath before any movement.
  2. 2 Postures are demonstrated, then built up in stages rather than shown once.
  3. 3 Breath leads the movement; a posture is held only as long as the breath stays even.
  4. 4 Adjustments are given individually — the camera is on, and corrections are personal.
  5. 5 Sanskrit names are pronounced correctly and their meaning explained.
  6. 6 Every session closes with stillness and a period of rest.

Questions People Ask

None at all. Postures are built up in stages and adjusted for the person, so complete beginners and people returning after a long gap are both comfortably placed.

Please mention it in your enquiry, and please check with your doctor first. Practice is adapted where it sensibly can be, but this is teaching in yoga — it is not physiotherapy or medical treatment, and it is not offered as a treatment for any condition.

A mat, enough clear floor space to lie down and stretch out, and a device positioned so you can be seen. Being seen matters — corrections to posture cannot be given otherwise.

Both. Small groups and individual sessions are available. Groups are kept small enough that every learner is still watched and corrected personally.

The course is arranged around the group, so length and content are confirmed on enquiry along with timings and fees. Please get in touch and you will receive the current details.
